A hard drive, you say? Wow. I didn't think the original PC (5150) would even take a hard drive. Is it a "hard card", where the whole unit slots into an expansion slot?

I don't think IBM made their own drives at that point. Early drives were made by Computer Memories International (CMI), who produced a load of dodgy ones and soon went bust. I'm not sure who took over after that. Connor were a big name at one time (long since gone, though I bought a couple of Conner-branded ATA/66/100 drives a few years back, probably made by one of the current big manufacturers who were just using the name).

Thanks, Dave. I felt certain someone would have bought them. Seagate will soon be unstoppable, what with having bought Maxtor. The Maxtor acquisition means it owns the old Quantum line, too. I fancy Western Digital (who have been in financial diffulty before) will be next for the chop. Or maybe Hitachi will sell off its IBM buyout.

My P233 MMX laptop with 64MB RAM is running Windows XP and Firefox 1.5 very happily, I did have to spend a long time tweaking which services run though but it is fine for a bit of wireless surfing.
Regarding your IBM if I had the space and the money I would pay upto £150 for it. I reckon you could easily get £200+ on ebay if its all working.
