I've always been a fan of Micromart and thought that I'd show some support by going with one of its (at the time) stockists , European Computers Ltd. for a major purchase.

However all the popularised fears about online purchases here in the UK came home to visit me with European Computers. They've prety much vanished off the face of the planet as soon as the money left my account. All telephone numbers suddenly went dead (vacant number) and despite numerous e-mail messages sent, no replies. I even had a telephone company check the line, but all I was told is that the numbers have been "locked", whatever that means. I also notice that European Computers are no longer listed at Micromart as a stockist - Good Riddance to 'em. Its people like that who have only added to the misery of consumers as far as online transactions and e-commerce are concerned. They'll all get their just dues sooner or later!

I'm pretty disappointed :-( but not entirely surprised in the end. I always figured that one day my turn would come , and I guess this was my turn.

I do have one suggestion for the editors though, some other online computing mags also include a facility where its members can offer some feedback about their experiences with various stockists. Well., that's my two cents here. Hope to catch some of you around some time.

Stacey

ooer. i hope you ordered by credit card.

i had that once with a company from micromart(i was 15 at the time) i ordered £70 of comp stuff, which was a lot of money to me then. the company told me it would be shipped next day.

a week later i called and they said it was in front of them ready to go.

yet another week later i called and there was no answer.

i went to the citezens advice beuro who got me in touch with trading standards. they did a check and the company had gone bankrupt a few days before.

the b***ards knew they were taking my money and not giving me anything for it too. they just took my money and probably paid off some debt with it knowing fine they didnt have to send me jack.

i was ready to go down there and give some1 a good kicking for that too. still makes my blood boil 4 years later

Hi,
Unfortunately, I didn't pay with a credit card. I went the switch way (silly me, I thought I could save a few bucks by avoiding the surcharge!).

I feel a right idiot at the moment, just thinking about it, only makes me more and more angry! And what makes me even more disappointed, is the fact that I only went with a Micromart stockist because I've had so much out of the mag over the last two years - and wanted to ensure that I included the mag as the referrer for the next purchase I made. I know from contacts that retailers do look closely at this so as to channel marketing resources more effectively.

Oh well.., I could ill-afford the loss, but I don't think there may be anything I can do at the moment. I sent off an e-mail to the editors here hoping that they might have some way forward, but its just hoping......,

Thanks for taking the time to respond though.., makes it a tad bit better to know that someone read my rant.

Regards,

Mr. S Roberts
