Well I fixed my cousin's Nano a day after posting here by reformatting it and using that HP Tool. It still comes up with the 'Do Not Disconnect' message everytime but it at least works with iTunes and is accessible yes Ian my first port of call was Apple's user forum

I've got a normal Ipod and its ok...but sometimes I wish I had gone with iRiver or Creative :9 but spending £200 I can't exactly go back on it until it breaks fully, and even then they will just replace it.

My 2nd generation iPod is 4 years old in 3 weeks time. Still getting 5 hours+ from a charge on original battery. Have dropped iPodLinux on it for a laugh. Music playback iffy with it but games much better than owt Apple give latest iPods.

Rumour from across the pond is that the new Nano will sport 8GB FLASH memory and be housed in an aluminium case.

Do Nanos even work half the time? A friend bought one for £190 at a charity auction, then dumped it on me to get it working, i couldnt get iTunes to recognise it, checked all the apple support things, all i did was break it further! I tried an iPod update (presumably to the one which is full of bugs!) & now it just says "restore using iTunes" & says that whatever i do, useless rubbish!

Another friend took her Nano with us on geography field trip to the isle of Arran ( a bleak scottish rock in the middle of a wet sea!) it dint survive the first day, frizzed out, dunno if it was the water or the miles of climbing, but it died, yet mobile phones (although misted behind the screen for a week!) & my philips 3Gb thingy survived it all, not too much the worse for wear, unlike ourselves!!!

Gotta say go with Creative, Rio Carbons are awesome, but i think they stopped making them ;_;

New PC....any suggestions?

I know dozens of peeps who fell foul of the Big Bad Battery Con. Over time they now get about 2 songs listening time from their original iPods, and have switched over to an alternative (Creative or Samsung being the most popular amongst them.) I'll stick with my MpMan F10 and Nokia N73

Still an iPod is a gaze magnet when it's stuck to your belt (working or not.)

No wonder there`s so much poop on my PC these days.

Well I've had many problems with my cousin's iPod again this time on my new computer. iTunes won't automatically load upon insertion, then it wouldn't copy the songs over (disk cannot be read!) unless you try another USB port (other devices are fine)....I guess die hard Apple fans will blame Windows for the problems (I'm undecied on this) but I've had more trouble with an iPod Nano than my Creative Zen Vision M which has been faultless

iPods are great fashion icons but they just don't seem to have the functionality and reliability that I prefer

Computer Dave

Sounds like your cousins Nano is up the shoot. Don't think this is a Windows or iTunes problem. If the same thing is happening on 2 PC's then its almost certainly the iPod at fault. Get a replacement if its under warranty - it shouldbe as they were introduced less than a year ago.

There is a small chance that iTunes is not set correctly. You can set it so the iPod is loaded manually (I think). Connect the iPod and make sure it appears in the playlists panel on the left. Click 'Edit' then click 'preferences' then the 'iPod' tab. Make sure the iPod is set to automatically update when its connected. I can't remember the exact settings available but it may have been set wrong as the software installed its defaultsettings. Unfortunately I am in front of a PC without my Nano with me so cannot verify this for you.

And its now Pub O' Clock time.....
