hi,
after having my iBook for a few months, i want to continue with macs. As my desktop now i am thinking about the new iMac. 17" with a core duo (although it may be a core 2 duo near Christmas, i can hope) with 1GB ram and a 250GB HD. It has to last for more than 3 years whilst at uni/college. Main use will be coding, 3d modeling, final cut and Adobe CS(3 Hopefully).
This spec come to £948.46 (education store) plus £129.25 for final cut express HD. Macromedia Studio 8 is £59 and Adobe CS2 is £295. Maya PLE/Blender 3d is free.
Do you think this package would last me for the 3 years at uni or college.

Personally I doubt that the Core 2 Duo will find its way into the iMac. It's essentially a laptop turned into a desktop computer, the cramped internals and limited cooling probably couldn't cope with the extra heat. On the other hand Intel's Merom CPU is meant to be released by the end of the year and that's an obvious upgrade for Apple's laptops, the Mac Mini and the iMac.
Of course if you always waited for the next big thing to be released you'd never buy anything. The current Core Duo iMac is a fast system and I think it should cope well with your college work.
