Today, my ISP changed and I have installed a new Netgear wireless router/modem and have managed to set up my wifes laptop and kids pc's to all go online wirelessly, but when it comes to my PC, it just won't connect wirelessly.
Currently my pc in the loft) is connected via a network cable but this is far from ideal, as the signal to the other pc's is quite weak and previously the router was situated in the middle of the house for all pc's to connect wirelessly which they did very well.
I can see the network on my pc, strength is fine, and upon clicking to connect I'm asked to input the WPA key which I do and then nothing, it looks like it is connecting but it doesn't.
I have tried letting both windows and the adaptors' own software configure the settings (again the SSID is clearly visible in the adaptors program) and an identical adaptor is used on one of the other pc's.
I've tried disableing Zone alarm, but that doesn't help.
So although I did'nt need to change any settings in the routers configuration pages for the other Pc's is there something I need to do for my PC?
All help would be really appreciated!!!

I had a similar sounding problem once, turned out that I needed to add the MAC address of the network card into the routers configuration. On my router (3com) this was on the Lan settings page of the router configurations under dchp list. Don't know why this would be the case with just this machine and not the others, but it worked for me. Hope this helps you.

Also , under the firewall settings there may be MAC address filtering, need to put it in here as well.

Try the following.

Temporary move your pc to the room where another pc is connecting okay to isolate poor signal strength.

Disable any WPA/WEP security on the router when troubleshooting connection problems.

Search for adjacent wifi routers used by neighbours if any found compare channel used with your router and if possible set your channel to at least 3 more/less.

Currently I have the router sat on the floor between my PC and a laptop (foot either side) the laptop (old one running XP SP1) connected in seconds, my pc still no joy, despite disabling the encryption.
I've tried putting the pcs' adapter MAC address into the configuration page, however I don't know if it went into the right place!, but it made no difference....

Could try uninstalling the wireless adapters configuration program and just using windows wireless zero configuration service, have seen conflicts when both programs are running.

Will it connect when there is no security at all?

Sorry you are still having problems, a shot in the dark, is this the first time you have tried to connect via the wireless adapter? Was it connected by ethernet cable to a pci network card previously? If so have you disabled the network card in device manager? If not could they be conflicting?

Thanks for all of the replies so far, trying each suggestion bit by bit.
What I find frustrating is that my set up is in no way different to how I had it been pre 11 this morning, its just the router thats changed.
So I have tried with windows Zero configuration enabled and disabled and I have tried it with no security. I am going to have a go at swapping adapters around, but going to leave that till tomorrow morning, as I'm going a bit barmy at the mo.

Cheers and thanks again...

If you can't get on with no security the problem almost certainly lies with the PC.
Swapping cards about would be my next move as you say.
Good Luck
