Hello,

I have a wee conundrum. Need a new computer but don't know if I should get a Mac or a pc.

I know this might be the oldest computer question in the world and very open but any pointers would be great.

I use my current PC for itunes, internet and sometimes MS word and am not very au fait with computers at all.

Cheers everyone

Use Firefox instead of IE, I've found the only prog's that lock up on my Mac are Microsoft ones

Why use MS stuff on a Mac?

Would you buy a nice new sleek sports car, then hang a ruddy great ugly caravan on the back of it...?
(HINT: If the answer to that last question was NO then you just scored 10/10...)

Buy a Mac and get all the boxes ticked:

OSX, a great little operating system. Forget MS bloat, OSX looks the biz, is great to use and doesn't get viruses. (But hang on a few short weeks until the next version Leopard appears.)
Safari web browser. Rock solid and not Internet Explorer 7, so no downside there then... Nice!
iTunes is native to the Mac... Nuff Said!
You can get Word as part of the expensive Office for Mac, but what's wrong with Open Office for free?

Buy a Mac if you like innovative design that both looks great and works well.
Buy a Mac if you would like to be free of the Windows virus/spyware treadmill.

Buy a PC if you can't live without the cosy familiarity of Windows.
Buy a PC if money is really tight, as an entry level PC will probably work out a bit cheaper.

Macs are generally better built, but more expensive than PCs - even brand name PCs. If your not into Windows, building and upgrading yourself and generally messing around a Mac is probably a good option.

I use a self-built PC myself, but my girlfriend uses a Mac.

She has no trouble with it ever. Mind you, since XP my computer hasn't been any trouble either...

And the moral of the story is...

Beware of girls in false beards bearing Macs!

Cheers, Slipstreem.
