Hey all,

In my final year of uni next year i am going to be doing a lot of video editing and programming in visual basic.

I already have a super dooper desktop pc which i use for gaming and stuff. But i want a laptop for portable working!

I understand you can install windows on macs these days and get them duel booting.

Do you think i should go for a macbook then get windows on it for the VB?

Does windows work well on a mac?

The Boot Camp software that is necessary to make dual boot work is still in beta until OSX Leapard is released.

I've seen a demonstrator Mac Mini in the local Peasey World running Vista, but can't think of any good reason why I would want to actually do it... Of course, you would also have to budget for your own full retail copy of Windows, in addition to your Mac purchase price, should you decide to go that route.

There's also virtualisation software available to run Windows from within Mac OS.

Parallels Desktop is probably the best one around. It's not free, but has a lot of useful features and integrates Mac OS and Windows very smoothly. The soon to be released third version will even support 3D acceleration for Windows gaming within Mac OS.

I have a copy of windows xp sp2 that came with my old PC. Would that work?

To be honest i really like the idea of having a mac to stand out from the crowd. It seems awesome for video editing, and even if i cant get windows working on it i think i would still get one
