| OK here goes, I've had a tiny issue where the internet connection part of my router appears to have gone by way of the dead mouse! It will connect the PC's I have together fine, I can share files etc...it even picks up an ADSL signal just fine (the lights say so), but the computers will not connect to a web page or anything, I've set up and re set up, I've done it all, changing filters, wires etc....nothing. So I thought how about setting up the old fashioned single PC connection up to a main PC then using the router to allow all the other PC's to share that one PC's Connection....simple so I thought I thought just using the Windows Network setup wizard, ensure all the gateways are set to pick up the IP of the main "server" machine and all should be well....but alas nothing....the laptop cannot pickup a connection to the internet via the router and ICS, I can't see that there is anything else to set up... Does anyone have a step-by-step for this or even know a webpage that can help me, if you have a step-by-step file you can send it to my_mouse_is_dead@hotmail.co.uk I'd love any tips you guys can give, this is only a temporary solution until I can afford a new router, obviously this type of set is a real mess and pointless when I can just have a router in place again. Thanks

| Sounds like you may have the same problem as someone else on this forum. Here's the answer I gave before. http://forum.micromart.co.uk/Topic193973-33-1.aspx Hope it helps. Cheers, Whiskey.

| Could you post what type of router you're trying to connect with. Also have you had a connection set up on the line before or are you waiting for activation? Cheers, Whiskey.

| The router is a D-Link DAL-G604T, it was working perfectly...but a trip (or should I say 15yro bouncing around) destroyed the phone line cable, I've replaced all the cables, the RJ11 the phone line and even the filters, but to no avail....all the settings have been reset but still nothing....all the machines are on XP and it has worked fine before.... As a temporary fix I was thinking about removing the router from accessing the internet...dusting off the modem and setting that up on a single machine (this one) then using that connection to allow all the others to connect using the router as a hub....just until I could buy a new router, I've pretty much eliminated all other possibilities, obviously the connection works fine cos I am using it right this minute...

| The router you mention appears to be a modem/router which I believe you are trying to connect using a separate modem in order to use it as a router. Unfortunately this is not possible which is why you are having such problems. The only thing I can suggest is to try the reset button on the back of the modem/router. If that doesn't work your only option is to buy a router to connect to the modem or a stand alone router/modem. Cheers, Whiskey.

| Thanks I was afraid of that....looks like it's a new router job then....with no temorary fix... Although I have managed to now get the the Laptop to see the Tiscali connection that is running on this machine....it just can't actually bring up a webpage... But if I go to the network connections option on the lappy it has one for the residential gateway which is the tiscali connection that I am running on this main machine....so that says to me it may just about be possible as it is seeing the internet connection through the router... But again...thanks for your input, I just hope that either someone sees this post that has an amazing idea that can help me with this temp fix or that my payday comes around a little bit faster....
