I run the software update but the only thing that comes up is Itunes 7.3, i ran it then when i ran Itunes it wouldnt run as it needed 10.4.7.

I didnt realise there were updates available so a quick look and download i downloaded all the missing updates 10.4.4/.5/.6/ etc.. also found a combined update which i presume loads all the previous updates.

I tried to run each one but when i get to the 'select destination disk' i get the message "You cannot install Mac OS X Update (PowerPC) (which is the version i need) on this volume. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update."

As far as i know it does meet the requirements ie: plenty of disk space.

Ive googled for a solution but i cant come up with anything, also i havnt got the installation disk or any other disks to reinstall the operating system.

Have you tried the combo update instead of doing it one step at a time?

I really can't understand why Software Update isn't picking up on the new versions, though.

There's some troubleshooting info here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106695

I've heard many times that downloading/updating via 'Software Update' can cause install problems. If I were you I'd download the combo update from Apple's website. Before you try to install run Disk Utilities to verify the disk and permissions on the disk yoo want to install to. For good measure run Onyx too as this will clear up any oddities which may be causing problems.
