Just purchased a new Mac at work, we now have 2 machines.
How can i connect the 2 of them up to be able to share files? They are both networked at the moment but i can get my head around it.
Ive lookeed on the net and some have mentioned using appletalk but i cant find it. One Macs using 10.4.3 ( but it wont upgrade for some reason) and the new Macs running 10.4.10 (or what ever latets version is)

It should be fairly easy. You need to make sure you have file sharing set up. go to system preferences > sharing and start File Sharing after checking the personal file sharing box. Check any other services you want to share over the network. Then go to the Firewall tab and make sure you have allowed the same services you checked above through the firewall. From there you should be able to share files over the network.
If you download Bonjour from Apple's web site this may help with setting the Macs up to see each other on the network.
I've not actually had chance to set my own home network up properly yet but I did this to get my wife's Dell laptop to see and share my old G4 Powermac files and the printer attached to it. This was done wirelessly using a Netgear DG834 router.

Hi mattiespurs,
BigAlbie's got it right about switching on Sharing in System Preferences, but you'll also need to enable AppleTalk on the network connection you're using (ethernet or wireless, you don't specify).
Open System Preferences, navigate to Network, click on the active network connection you're using (i.e. Built-In Ethernet if it's wired, or Airport if it's wireless) and click on Configure... Next, click on AppleTalk, and check Enable. You'll need to do this on both your Macs to set up an AppleTalk network. And if you haven't done so, you can now enable Sharing properly as BigAlbie said.
Hope this helps,
Rob Johnson
