please ,if you are going to lap a heatsink ..please do it on a FLAT surface.Anyone can get the base nice and shiny with a subtle bow in it making it useless.
Had similar problem with ally cylinder head,nice'n' shiny but not flat!

Mirrors are generally quite flat, especially thick ones that don't deform when you lay them on the living room carpet.
