Can I request that someone at MM contacts the major HD manufacturers and gets official data on whether spin up/down damages their drives and if so, how manu up/down cycles are they rated for.

I also expect that older model drives are more prone to this due to recent green issues which makes it more likely drives are stopping and starting. Can you find out if this is true and which models/date/manufacturers do not suffer from the problem.
