i am a subscriber, but cunningly not in my name, my girlfriend subscribes for me as i truthfully explained that micromart is an absolute necessity if i am to keep her world of
warblecraft system in good health. she bought a viper system from an mm ad and very good it is too. the viper system runs vista hp and wow a lot. the second system runs xp for her email and workstuff..my second system runs linux for email forum searches etc...my main system is my first self build succesfull thanks to mm it runs vista hp. i obtained vista
smoker, and am quite pleased with it, also from an mm review...so mm is a big help..there is one article that would help immensely.....before i venture into the world of overclocking
i really would like an in depth explanation of the settings in the bios, not just what to set them at but what do they do and how...for example...what is asus cross graphics impellor..
my board is a p5k pemium black pearl good choice for an article... ok so my system runs just fine at the moment..but the warnings in the bios about incorrect settings may cause at some future time a large black and white stripey vortex to appear and rend the fabric of the universe asunder, a bit worrying...oh i particularly liked the past article on quantum
computing...thanks..

The only problem is that bioses vary so much it would be hard to cater for all. It would not be indepth for any particular motherboard. Overclocking (C2D's) on the other hand is fairly simple with a few general rules to follow:- Increase the fsb to overclock the cpu.
- Make sure the cooling and temps are ok.
- Lock the pci/pci-e buses to 33/100Mhz.
- benchmark thoroughly to check for a stability.
- If you find instability check your ram in not running to above spec. If it is use a divider or unlink it so it stay's with a useable limit.
- If you find a limit and want to go furthur apply voltage increases in small amounts to the cpu (vcore), ram and northbridge.
- Once you find the max stable overclock back it off a little to give it some breathing room.

thanks wiz, thats the stuff. this is my first build.thermaltake armor case. p5k premium black pearl mobo, e6750 cpu, asus 8800gtx gpu, 1 dvdrw,1 500 hdd. 1000w psu.2gmatched corsair dominater 8500. 1066mh ram.ultra extreme i20 cpu cooler plus a 12cm fan. ive added a second 12cm fan at the front and modded the restrictive tinwork cages at the front
for better airflow. added fan in top of box and removed side fan for cpu cooler clearance its a tall cooler and is supported by cable ties to the case top, to minimise the weight hang
on the mobo. it was a cold day when ifired it up, cpu temp 0c, mobo temp 12c..running fsx on a warm day the max so far 15c cpu 27c mobo.. next step gpu cooler. it would be a waste not to overclock it if only to see how highe ican get the temperatures to go without disaster striking , quite mad. but more fun than playing fsx...i will be using this forum to ask some really stupid questions. i am sure i will get really intelligent knowledgible answers..thanks sentient beings..

Thats some pretty good high end kit...Overlcocking should be a breeze for you.
