| can anyone tell me how i know if the wireless keyboard is turned off, theres only a tiny green light that comes on for a few seconds whenever the on/off switch is pressed, the keyboard seems to work whether the on/off button is pressed or not, is it supposed to go to sleep when not used ? the instruction book that came with the key board is not much help it just says its an on/off switch. My first set of batteries has only lasted a few days [not many hours use] thanks Bob
is it supposed to do that ?

Which OS are you running?
If you are running OS X 10.5 Leopard then do the following.....
1) Open 'System Preferences'
2) Click 'Security' under the Personal section
3) Select 'Firewall'
4) From here you can select one of the 3 buttons depending on the level of security you want. I set mine to the last button (set access for specific services & applications). This allows you to block certain apps going onto the internet. If you click the 'advanced' button you can go select both options to go into stealth mode.
If you are running OS X 10.4 Tiger or an earlier OS then the firewall settings are (I think) under the 'Network' tab in system preferences. Firewall changed somewhat with the introduction of 10.5 and a few people have been caught out by the fact it's turned off by default when 10.5 is installed.
Regarding anti-virus software there is no great need for it at the minute as there a few real threats to OS X out in the wild. However, things are slowly changing for the worst and I (personally) think the time isn't too far off when Mac users will need it. If you want to install an AV package for peace of mind then Virusbarrier by Intego is as good as any, or try the free but slow ClamXav.

My first set of batteries has only lasted a few days [not many hours use] thanks Bob Something definitely wrong - I'm still on my original set of batteries after nearly 2 months.
