| A round up of the quietest on the market would be very useful as my current ASUS 1650 turns my otherwise silent PC into the M25

I'd go for this silent fans out of the box or passive cooled ones, I've just built the quietest pc I've ever not heard I cant even tell when its on, infact I only know because I turned it on. A graphics card thats very quiet or passive cooled would be great.

| I'd maybe make it an article extending across several issues with tests of various quiet components - I know there are dedicated websites and the like for quiet computing, but most of us don't have the time to go and research in depth on every possible component... Maybe graphics cards one week, fans and coolers the next (3rd party CPU and GPU air cooling), perhaps water cooling towards the end of the series (I am aware CPC have just done a pretty big water cooling test), sound proofed cases, etc... Perhaps a group test on a range of headsets would be good, quiet from the P.O.V. of your neighbours/house mates/family etc...

A series about silent computing sounds good maybe even at the end of the series a build using the best parts to test them all together to see if silent computing can live up to things like games, media encoding etc, etc, especially if some of the components a passive cooled.

I think a series on quiet components, third party add ons etc would be good.
I recently bought a Coolermaster Extreme Power 500W, its as quiet as a couple of bricks in a cement mixer, the noise abatement society pushed a couple of cards under the door.
You'd think they'd have knocked or used the letter box, but I guess that's not their thing..

Isn't it really annoying how some passively cooled silent cards have a £30 price hike over the default ones, whereas buying the default card, and a kick ass 3rd party cooler would probably save money, and be quieter!

gunman127 (29/04/2008) buying the default card, and a kick ass 3rd party cooler would probably save money, and be quieter!
But voids the warranty.....
I'm very keen on silencing PC's, or at least getting them to run as quietly as possible.
The best source of info I know of is www.silentpcreview.com
