My uses for the O.S are limited but probably inline with most people needs of the average home computer and even before SP1 I found it stable, reliable and very useable. Even the 64-bit version  The only big draw back I could see was the file transfer speeds and from what Dave has said it does not seem like that was sorted! 
I have a Computer... Try some MM Super Pi(e) here!

DRM and network speeds were the two reasons I kicked it.
I have more and more stored on the WHS box - that is the point of it after all - and Vista just went into apoplexy everytime you went near it.

Gn2 - have you got any evidence for the BIOS locked to an o/s?
It was something mentioned by a poster on another forum I use.
Have just had a quick Google myself:

It is possible to lock a bios to a particular OS or even a particular license key.
EFI fiery print servers are all BIOS locked, you even need to up-grade the BIOS to attach a Keyboard, mouse and Monitor.
You used to need a key to add memory!
Various models run NT4, 2000, XP, Unix and Linux.
Some machines are code locked to a particular interface, video, SCSI etc.
Mind you, that is specialist, expensive hardware (albeit a x86 PC really)

Wylie - Yes I was thinking of PCs in general. Some of the tricks vertical market OEMs get up to
GN2 - That's sort of the opposite way around. It locks the Windows OEM key "family" to a particular BIOS signature rather than the BIOS refusing to work with another o/s.
So you can only use a "Compaq" CD on a Compaq machine.
Mind you that's bad enough.
I have a dead HP laptop that will not recover (Vista) from any of the methods providied - and I did a second recovery DVD like a good boy before shipping to the customer.
