hi,

am running xp pro on system below but have put my old xp 1800 back in

i have changed the memory and cpu fsb and to their max and the resulting fsb was 334, it ran fine up until it got to the stage just before the windows screen and froze.

after several restarts and power offs i managed to get back into the bios to change some of the settings.

i then lowered the fsb of both and settings and restarted, but it didnt start. i have tried several times to restart and power off the whole system, but it just will not show anything on the screem!!.

i also changed the vga display option from pci to agp as i thought it would make sense to use the apg setting seeing as thats what i am using?!

everytime i start it up screen stays off and the power led on the screen just keeps on flashing?!

anyone!??

Do you gaet any other signs of life. Like fans spinning?

Try to reset your bios using the clear cmos jumper and try to power up again.

thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you

if i keep my memory fsb at 100 and chnage the cpu fsb from 133 to 166 it says that the cpu is running at 1915Mhz (its only a XP1800) it boots all the way to just before the windows screen before it hangs.

could i change anything to make it run at that speed?

also why can i not change my primary vga bios from pci to AGP??!! i think that that was the problem

cheers
K

Easy there dude. You go from one extreme to the other. That aint no way to overclock a system.
If you cant run in sync at 133 then forget any overclocking. You are wasting your time. And an overclock that results in a frozen screen is not worthy of being noted down. That is actually a failed overclock.

Take it easy and get your system running STABLE at 133/133 first. What you are trying to achieve is a syncronous fsb to maximise your bandwidth. Setting anything to 100/166 is pointless as you are bottlenecking everything to 100fsb.

Kevin - the cpu is probably maxing out just before getting inot windows. The way to avoid this is with cooling and upping voltages in BIOS.
However, other things like locking AGP/PCI bus is vital too.

I'd recommend you do like Peter says and gradually raise things than try to bound forward
