Hi Chaps,

Just take a look at my desktop screenshot and look at the Vista Gadget that is linked to Speedfan (Great gadget)

Are those temps OK under load? I had been encoding on and off for about an hour (See the Digital Photography and Video forum if you want to know why....struggling a bit!)

http://www.sendspace.com/file/cdsisu

Is it time to buy a new HSF? I cannot go any faster than 3.1ghz with my MB anyway, so if this temp is OK (and it never seems to go much above it) I will leave it, but I am getting the flame icon from Speedfan, and it has given me the willies.

Thanks,

Mitch.

If those are the maximum temps, then that's fine. The max temperature for the B3 stepping is about 72C and throttling kicks in at 82C.

The G0 will run 5C cooler usually and go up to 3.4Ghz, so I'm presuming that the max temps are the same on that (roughly).

It'd be worth running Orthos or a large amount of Video encoding for a good few hours to make sure that is the top it gets to.

Yes Philtore,

It is the new version and when you use that gadget, it puts the temps on it too which it pulls out of speed fan. The temps seem pretty accurate as they are more or less what the bias says, as opposed to sandra which reports 20 or so degrees less.

I am not one for all those useless gadgets that suck up memeory, but admit it is a good one. I expect it is useful for you regular overclockers too?

Anyway, I will run some Orthos tests too just to be safe, but I think it is stable enough.

This is the best guide I've seen on C2D/C2Q temps.

A B3 stepping: start getting worried when core temp is above 60C. 65C is HOT. for the later G0 stepping, 75C is hot

If it isn't thermal-throttling with thermal-throttling enabled in the BIOS then it's within safe limits. Stop worrying.

Cheers, Slipstreem.

System specs: "Phoenix" - 2.2GHz Intel C2D E4500 overclocked to 3GHz with ACF7Pro HSF on Volt-modded ASRock 775Dual-VSTA mobo (modded BIOS rev 3.10A and VNB=1.65, Vagp=1.8), 2x512MB Generic DDR400 RAM (3.0,3,3,8,1T @410MHz), Jetway ATI X1950Pro 256MB GDDR3 PCIe graphics card with modded AC Accelero X2 cooler dynamically overclocked to 650MHz GPU & 1.5GHz RAM. Powered by Hiper Type-M 580W PSU. Guess who likes overclocking on a budget.
