| Could anyone help me please? I have Orange broadband which most of the time works fine but some times when I switch on the computer there is no connection to the internet then I have to keep switching on and off until it connects. I use windows XP and there is a connect to option from the start menu but when I click on this all I get is my old dial up options. I am thinking that there should be a connect to Broad band option in there if so how do I set it up manually. I have a orange Livebox which is plugged into the computer directly and two laptops connected by wireless. The setup cd that came with the livebox did not work very well and got things working more by luck than any thing so I am a bit reluctant to use it again. The orange help pages and email help have not been of any help so before ringing them at 50p a minute I thought I would see if any one on this forum could help. Tanks

Do the laptops suffer the same problems? Or is it just the wired connection? Once the router is setup there is no need for any Orange software to be on the pc's. 
I have a Computer... Try some MM Super Pi(e) here!

| Thanks for the reply, the kids use the laptops I will ask them when they get back at the weekend but they have never said that they have problems connecting. How does one disconnect and reconnect to the net with broadband? I can some times get a connection by going in and out of firefox or internet explorer. In my old dial up I had an icon on the screen to say that I was connected should I have a similar icon with broadband? Thanks

Make sure that your router is set to permanent connection , not dial on demand.
On your PC , click Start > Control Panel . Assuming the icons here are on white background (click on classic view if they are on a blue background) double click on Internet options. Click on the connections tab and make sue that NEVER dial a connection is selected. Now click on the LAN settinsg option and make sure there is a tick in the first box only. Ok all that lot and let us know how it goes

| Thanks to you chaps that tried to help me with this. Over the holiday weekend a friend tried to help with no consistent results then I was advised to change the settings in internet protocol and now seem to connect via OpenDNS. So far this has worked and worked better than it ever has. Can any one tell me what this is and if it might cause any problems. I am thinking it may be an open source program I can find nothing bad about it on the net so far. It connects so quickly and reliable that that I would be loathed to go go back.
