My brother is going to put a projector into a room for watching movies but doesnt want to spend a fotune, about £300 would be nice. Saw a thread on this previously but the link and projector being discussed seem out of date.
I dont think he is planning to connect a PC to it,if he does would that make any difference in choice?
The viewsonic PJ151D got a decent write up in MM a couple weeks ago but seemed more aimed at work use and does 800 x 600 resolution make any difference with widescreen movies? (confused as it say the projhector supports 720p and 1080i standard?.
I think Slippy also mentioned the BenQ MP511 as decent bet.
Any comments welcome
Edit: Bugger can a mod edit the title please, thx in advance

There's this from Oyyy, there's this thread I started in March, there's this thread where Slippy give some fantastic advice, including how to build you own screen, and there's this one, where muttzcutz has shown how good it can be.
I'll eventually be getting one myself, but not for quite a while yet, but these links should give some help

I have been tempted with buying a projector, but been put off by the cost of replacement lamps.
Some time ago I was given a Epson projector free, by a mate,it sat in my dive for months, ended up throwing it in the bin, as the replacement was about £190 plus.
Had a look at some projectors the other day all had different lamp types, wattage, etc, and prices for replacement lamps varied from about thirty pounds to hundred of pounds depending on projector manufactuer.

800x600 is more than enough for watching standard definition DVDs. They only have a resolution of 720x576 anyway. The £200 rebadged Benq already mentioned is a fine piece of kit for the money, but the cost of a replacement lamp will probably approach the cost of the projector. As long as it's only going to be used for watching movies and not as a general TV, it's amazing how long 3,000 hours actually is.
Cheers, Slipstreem.
System specs: "Phoenix" - Intel C2D E4500 overclocked to 3GHz with ACF7Pro HSF on Volt-modded ASRock 775Dual-VSTA mobo (modded BIOS rev 3.10A and VNB=1.65, Vagp=1.8), 2x1GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2-800 RAM (3.0,3,3,8,1T @546MHz), Sapphire ATI HD3870 512MB GDDR4 PCIe graphics card overclocked to 850MHz GPU & 2.4GHz RAM. Powered by Hiper Type-M 580W PSU. Guess who likes overclocking on a budget.

The projector from Oyyy has a max resolution of 1280 x 1024. Any ideas if that'll actually be any good? I've got used to gaming at higher resolutions, and you can fit a lot more on the screen when you're playing an RTS

I think is is only 800x600 but can scale down a maximum of 1280x1024.
800x600 is a little low in my opinion for a gaming projector, 1280x720 would be perfect (for FPS titles) and TV but the price is slightly too high.

gaming: E4400@2.66GHz / P5K-E / 2x1GB PC8000@533MHz / 2x80GB D'Max 9-RAID0 + 320GB / 8800GTS 512MB / ViewSonic VX2835wm
server+media: P4 2.8GHz @ 2.4GHz / 775Dual-VSTA / 2x512MB PC3200 / 1000GB+500GB+250GB / HD2400pro
also: P3 for the mrs and a linux box and probably enough bits to build another one
