Hi,
I have a matroska video that I want to convert using the AVIVO Video Converter as part of my GPU.
I was using K-Lite codec pack, however, when moving the quality bar, it opens some part of the codec, and as I scroll the bar, it opens more and more of them. Which then takes all memory away and AVIVO crashes.
I tried a Matroska codec pack but this does the same. AVIVO wants a codec to be installed for it, or it just doesn't understand it. Is there a better codec that I can use?

Yes, good one ATI. That's how to push your latest graphics cards, by keeping software for older cards and not updating it at all

This could be a case of "Omega to the rescue!". The alternative Omega driver author has been focussing on fixing AVIVO issues apparently. DXVA, DXVA2, DirectX, HW deinterlacing can all be enabled by installing the latest Omega driver package. VC-1 playback is meant to have improved according to at least one report. It does seem to tie you to using PowerDVD to take full advantage of it for playback purposes for some bizarre reason. Just installing the Omega driver over the top of your ATI driver may kick-start something into working. The official ATI encoding software may even become usable.
As I have the Omega driver and ATI Tray Tools installed in preference over the Catalyst driver and CCC, I can't actually access any AVIVO controls for encoding or decoding purposes, so I can't really check AVIVO out on my older hardware at this end. I was hoping to be able to give you a performance benchmark of some kind from mine to compare yours with so we could see if they were any faster nowadays. Never mind.

EDIT: On second thoughts, it may already be enabled on my system anyway. I did notice that both 720P and 1080P WMV playback produced identical CPU loads in MPC-HomeCinema. Does DirectX take care of WMV? Wouldn't you have expected 1080P to take just a little more if all of the horsepower is coming from the CPU? Hmm...

VC-1 Codec is what really needs the grunt.
I remember downloading HD videos off Microsoft and Sky websites, and they weren't particularly CPU demanding (this is when I heard that most processors would be destroyed by HD video). In my other thread, the clip there is much closer to what needs to be on test.
Omega I will wait till it officially says ATI 4 series supported. I've had enough of going up and down drivers for this week (8.5-8.6-8.7 then back to 8.6, which wasn't a simple task)
