I regularly drive past a Volvo design office and only 10% of the cars in there are Volvos and that is probably because they get a discount.

Saw this pic a while back, only sensible reasoning I heard was that the venue that invited Ballmer provided the single laptop shown for all speakers to use to avoid the "Well it worked at home/Try F8/Try rebooting it/etc" VGA swapping scrabble that linking a new laptop to the projector seems to induce.
If you think about it, if it is running Windows, M$ has probably made more on the purchase of the full price retail copy of windows for bootcamp than they would get from a bulk OEM install on a Dell/HP/Acer/Asus.
