scanner & digital camera won`t work together Expand / Collapse

running windows 98s/e both devices work on their own, but will not work together for some reason, the camera( kodak dx4330) works ok on it`s own but as soon as I plug the scanner( epson 1260 perfection) in the camera won`t work but the scanner will. both usb.
any thoughts folks

possibly due to the power demands of the hardware on the usb root. Have a look in device manager to see if they are both being supplied from the same root hub.
Have you usb front & back? Try using one from front usb socket & one from rear usb socket before looking further at incompatabilities etc.

Maybe both are trying to use the same twain driver - I can't use my scanner & webcam at the same time for that very reason ( I can't recall the exact error message it threw up when I tried it, but the twain driver was definitely mentioned).

I am! Some drivers are common to both the webcam & scanner apparently, and they obviously don't/can't share them for some reason. As a result I can't have the webcam (Creative USB model - one of the few decent bits of kit they make) and scanner (Umax 1220S SCSI) active simultaneously (irritating, but I can live with it). It'll likely get worse when I get round to buying a digital camera.......
