I've been trialling NOD32 for a bit and have parted ways with it.

So I was installing Spyware Terminator while waiting for AVG to download and I notice that it has ClamAV. So I thought I'd give that a shot.

I can't find much info on how good it is as an AV (useful links please). My other problem with is that Windows keeps saying there is no AV running. Is ClamAV just a scanner and not a real time antivirus?

Is it worth leaving or shall I ditch it and get back to AVG?

TIA

Hi FreakShow!

I was wondering after you tried AVG did you try and run ClamAV too, and what was the results?

I was looking at a recent thread on here the other day and noticed ClamAV was towards the bottom of a list of Malware programs that a post linked to, though! (I'm starting to try out Spyware Terminator, with Spyware Doctor and Spybot S+D).

I should add that I'm using AVG 8, but am getting fed-up with the Resident Shield keep popping up with warnings about tracking cookies -I found a setting - Auto-Heal, somewhere, and that stopped the pop-up in the centre of the screen, but puts them in the RH corner, still fairly large and annoying!

I'm thinking of trying Avira instead, as that came higher on the list I mentioned too, than AVG.

Thanks, Speedee

Anybody else, please feel free to enlighten me thanks.

No I didn't try it.

As I am too stingy to pay for products, Avira is my current choice. I'm trialling Rising Antivirus (as pointed out by Captain Cad in the "Another Option" thread) and may move over to that on the main rig for a better test.

My current protection is:

Avira Anti-Virus (Real-time)
Spyware Terminator (Real-Time)
Spybot S&D
Spyware Blaster (manually run program that blocks access to known bad sites)
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Scan

Thanks, I won't ask anything about your reply here, but will put it in the Spyware Terminator thread so to keep them in one place! I may give ClamAV a blast in Spyware Terminator, depending on how it integrates. If it doesn't go too well I can reinstall ST without it if it looks a bit unstable!

I tried Clam the other day just to do a scan.

It did throw up 3 things which AVG found as well. Some files for my softmod Xbox. That's just down to the way thay work.

I can't really say anything about it either way. I don't even know how long it took as I fell asleep.
