Ok I've got an Athlon XP 2500, I've got some Corsair twinx 3200 ram running at default CL of 2 and a gigabyte motherboard capable of changing the FSB in 1 mhz increments. CPU and memory voltages can only be changed in 5% increments (.08v).

Does anyone have a rough idea of what fsb, multiplier and voltages I would need to get the 2500 up to 3200/200fsb???

I've managed to get it up to 175fsb with a multiplier of 12.5 with some nice results. But is it better to have a high fsb rather than a high clock speed?

I've tried lowering the multiplier to 11 and upping the FSB to 180, but anything past this and it doesn't boot. I see the default voltage as about 1.6 for the CPU, should it be higher if I'm trying to get to 2.2ghz/200fsb?

Any help much appreciated!!!!!

First check your ram runs ok at 200. You are correct that its bandwidth(i.e.200fsb) thats important for speed. I know its rated at 200 but just check to eliminate it from the equation. So run your rig out of sync 166(cpu) 200(ram). Run memtest86 and make sure there are NO errors after ten runs.

Once you have validated the ram then set about your cpu. When it flakes out drop your multi a notch or two and go higher with the fsb. Do not fear to add more voltage, many run the barton at stock voltage but also many run at 1.85 volts.

Keep an eye always on your cpu temperature. In my opinion danger areas are like 55 degrees. This temp is fine but it is saying that your cooler is struggling to keep it under control.

200 x 11 is an excellent overclock. But theres nothing wrong with 200 x 10.

I can only seem to change the FSB and the memory appears to run in sync with it. However in the bios frequency/voltage settings it says my ram is running at 166.

Am I meant to be able to change RAM and fsb separately? My board is a Gigabyte GA 7vaxp, got it last year. The Ram Frequency is just greyed out in the bios but the fsb is changable.

Should I be able to change the memory frequency separately?

Hi me again, I've just double checked this, the only option I can change is the cpu host frequency (FSB) I can't seem to adjust the DDR frequency at all. It shows the Ram running at DDR 333
in the bios, not ddr400, not even if I move the fsb up to 400.
At a multiplier of 11, the highest fsb I can get is a little over 180.

Any ideas?

I am not familiar with your mobo. You may not be able to run async. Doesnt matter really, just assume your ram is not the problem and work on your cpu. You could relax the ram timings just to make sure. For example set the ram to 11,3,3,2.5

Increase the voltage to your chip. Monitor the temperature though you should be ok. Try 1.7volts. Drop the multiplier if you have to. 10 x 200 is a good start.

hi all

Got the same CPU running at 200x12x1.8 (2.4Ghz) and it runs fine....

Temp at 45c when surfing the net and my god does it run fast

Just push it, you`ll be pleased with the results and as yet i haven`t blown anything up.

Hope you get it running
