| Hi, Since building my first o/c pc (c/o first overclock thread) I have switched the pc on and on a couple of occasions the pc reverted to its stock speed, It is running at 3.56 happuily but when I tried setting to 3.8 it would boot up and run but would revert back to stock when next fired up, Probably something simple but as a newbe has anyone an idea please,

It's normally the sign of a failed over clock which means it's not as stable as it seems.

That depends. On Asus boards you can either press the power button for a few seconds or unplug the mains cable. Once powered up again and it will default. Nice Asus...Friendly to over clockers...

Yes. Thinking about it, the budget ASRock does the same with the power-off trick, although there is a dedicated setting in the BIOS for automatic crash recovery, and that's the effect Yeoboy is seeing I suspect.
Cheers, Slipstreem.
System specs: "Phoenix" - Intel C2D E4500 overclocked to 3GHz with ACF7Pro HSF on Volt-modded ASRock 775Dual-VSTA mobo (modded BIOS rev 3.10A and VNB=1.65, Vagp=1.8), 2x1GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2-800 RAM (3.0,3,3,8,1T @546MHz), Sapphire ATI HD3870 512MB GDDR4 PCIe graphics card overclocked to 850MHz GPU & 2.4GHz RAM. Powered by Hiper Type-M 580W PSU. Guess who likes overclocking on a budget.

| Slipstream, I know you are knowledgeable by the number of posts you make, I am trying to decide if that statement regarding the cmos is a thinly disguised clue, Do you have to discharge the cmos at some stage when changing settings? The mobo is a Gigabyte P35 DS3r. Seems to be ok at 3.56 even when running Orthos, Excuse my ignorance.

No.
The cmos will store what ever settings you choose in the bios.
