I'm wanting to securely backup my home PCs, share files and a printer, and would like to be able to wake up the server/NASbox using any machine on the network (I don't want anything on 24/7).

I've previously built a Windows Home Server machine for a friend, but don't have the money to build one at the mo. I've also recently put together a system from spares running Linux Mint, but am struggling to understand how to use Samba (I'm totally new to Linux), and a little too untrusting of the components, which don't support RAID in any case.

What I would really like is a reasonably priced NASbox with RAID and Print sharing, which could be woken over LAN. Is there such a device available?

Thanks, Mark

OK, I've found a candidate:http://tiny.cc/CMkYO

This looks like a fair deal for the money.

I use a modified NSLU2. A lot cheaper than that and more upgradable as well. Though it is a bit more hassle to play with.
