Purely out of interest, does anybody here use any of the BSD's?
Twice I have tried to dabble with them. I got freebsd 6.3 installed with gnome, though I had to fight to get X working and never got sound or wireless to work properly.
A few days ago I downloaded desktopbsd 1.6 (only to find out azureus wasn't working properly...I blame that on bsd some how) and after two fruitless days have installed suse 10.3 on my laptop instead. You don't seem to be able to use sysinstall (the ncurses Freebsd installer) to install Desktopbsd so need X to work to install it. I had no such luck, only getting it to work when I used an xorg.conf file taken from an ubuntu 7.04 live cd session (as per my last attempt with Freebsd) but this left me without a working mouse.
Part of me wants to give up completely with them, and the other part is gonna keep nagging till I finally manage to get it all working.

suse 11 is a much better distro than 10.3....as for BSD, experimenting with FreeNAS at the moment.

Hopefully without zooming off on a tangent here, I used 10.3 as i had the cd lying around. I have the 11 iso on my main computer's hard drive at the mo I think. The computer though is inaccessible.
While suse was very good on my old computer, my laptop is just too slow for it. I'll replace it with something else soon as its really annoying me.
