I have just installed TinyMe (a pclos derivative) and am looking for a lightweight IM client to go with it. I do like kopete but that would require installing a load of QT/KDE libraries that I would prefer to avoid. On my windows pc I use pidgin but again that would require installing a load of gtk/gnome stuff and I want to keep memory usage down

I believe I can use opera's IRC chat function to connect to the MSN chat network through a program called bitlbee. However I am having problems using opera with flash at the moment so have installed firefox 3.

Any suggestions for a simple chat client, it only really needs to connect to msn, would be appreciated. I have looked at amsn but didn't really like it.

EDIT: I've just been looking through synaptic and have realised I already have most of the gtk stuff installed with other programs so pidgin shouldn't take too much.

I've also found a link for Mozilla's InstantBird that may be quite good. I'll have a looksee anyway.

XChat is a highly rated GTK+ client but would again involve probably loading more GTK/Gnome stuff than you want.

Try Chatzilla as an add on to Firefox.

I've used GAIM (or Pidgin) before.

Pidgin came pre installed on Ubuntu 8.04 and I find it fast and easy.
And it works with all clients well.
I have it on my Xp when I have to use that virus microsoft lol.

I use Pidgin when I have to use that Linux bloatware stuff.
