Haha, thats epic.
My girlfriend always calls me an Intel fanboy, but that AMD K8 is a clear winner: I'd have one in an instant if I needed a low power/noise/heat/cost PC.

Problem, though. It costs several more times the money to manufacture than the Atom and is also physically much bigger. AMD hasn't a prayer of making them in volume at a price that will compete with the other CPUs in the market -- not without making a loss, anyway.

Intel's chipset is the biggest problem, it's hot, noisy and spartan feature wise.
Intel are making the Atom boards cheap enough for the embedded Atom on Mini ITX board to be sold at £50 to us consumers.
Biggest omission in that article was the price difference IMO, expected to be around $90 + mobo vs £50 all in.
(Thought the Atom was destined for UMPC's and smart phones anyway?)

| yeah its a goodly story. It will be intresting to see how amd's chip set and 45nm cpus perform against the nehalem and Intels supportive chipset.. There could be a suprise coming along..
