OK, simply put, I have SuSE 9.0 Pro installed with NVIDIA_nforce-1.0-0261.suse90.i586.rpm installed through YaST, for my nForce drivers. I also have a ADSL Ethernet Router for LAN /WAN connections.
Problem is the only Ethernet Adaptor found is a single Realtek 8139 type. There doesn't seem to be a way to configure both of the onboard LANs, let alone join the network or use the internet.
I have tried using the Realtek one inputting the appropriate IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Gateway but it cannot find the network, and will not find the web. The only thing that works is that I can access the HTTP GUI for the Router config, using Konqueror.
My best guess is that its related to the nForce drivers, but I have no idea how to configure the machine to use them correctly.

If configuration proves elusive you could always cheat and buy a 10/100 network card cheap off eBay or at your local computer fair. I realise you would prefer to use the onboard ethernet, but if you have a spare PCI slot it's a work around until you get a proper answer. My eBay cheapy NIC has so far run fine with Knoppix, Mandrake and now Slackware (once I'd configured the network).

I have got quite a few links for this problem and I will post them here. I anticipate having the same type of problem when I swap my Linux system over to my high powered rig.

Yes I think I've seen em all and more....
The NVIDIA drivers (nvnet) work exactly the same as whatever is used at installation, i.e. not at all.
It doesn't matter if I use the Binary RPMs or create my own from source. This is exactly the same result on both the 2.4 and 2.6 Kernels.
I have already tried the forcedeth.o on 2.4 kernel but it didn't like it, I am gonna give the patch a go first, before trying em all again on 2.6.1 kernel.
PS Apparently the reverse-engineered 'forcedeth' is expected to become integral within 2.6.2 kernel , but noone seems to know for sure.

Success.....well sort of.
The trick was simple, just plug the rj45 into the other LAN port, and it worked from scratch on a fresh install i.e 2.4.21-99 kernel.
Didn't need the nVidia drivers or the forcedeth
Yes theres only one LAN port available, but then I'm only using one.
Went online, updated to 2.4.21-166 kernel etc. , still working like a dream.
Can't complain about the three wasted evenings, I can now build RPMs from SRPMs and build, configure, compile and install kernels.
I think I'll leave it at 2.4 kernel for now, at least until a 'better supported' 2.6 kernel comes out.
