I have been having problems getting an overclock on this board and it turns out that it has fail safes on it that are a bit over the top, boot guard and something called u-cop ? Anyway I was wondering if as it dosent like overclocking my E 4600 on its native 800mhz FSB, could it be underclocked when set on a 1066 FSB (jumpers need changing) or would it just throw a fit/blow up when i tried to boot it ? 1066 comes out at about 3.2 GHZ and i was aiming for 3.0 ghz. The chip is meant to be able to get 3.4 with extra volts and a decent cooler. (I know all chips wont but its an old and tried chip)

I dont need the OC but i want to know for future use. It will take about 20% oc but not get the 25% that is 3.0GHZ

 Thanks

What are you running the memory at?
Did you drop it down before upping the FSB?

Hi mm,

Make sure that you are giving that ram of yours between 2.1v-2.2v. It needs it.

Also make sure the ram Jumpers on the board are set to FSB1600 irrespective of what speed processor you are using. (see page 26 of your manual)

I'm fairly sure the above will sort your oc'ing problems if you're still having any.

Cheers,

Put a clock under it.

Your board will then be Overclocked

So thats the FSB jumpers ? you say ram jumpers but it dosent mention ram in the book, also its page 21 in mine. Same board or differant ? I will check the ram and add some volts if needed. Do these jumpers physically set the FSB speed or just allow it to go up to a set speed ?

 Thanks

Regards the jumpers - Damned if I know? I've read everything there is on that. It seems they actually stop the ram from being overclocked too far in some way. So they are probably connected with the board's dividers.

From the bios one would think there was no need for such jumpers. But they exist on several current Asrock boards and a large number of people report that oc'ing is awkward until they are set to 1600FSB. TBH such strange situations are not uncommon on Asrock mobo's. They seem to always have a unique way of doing things.

Ok thanks i will take that on board. I have had a report that there is a different jumper setting for 1:1 with a 800FSB CPU but I'm dubious. I think i will try the long shot of e-mailing ASRock direct and trying to get a yes or no out of them as regards this different jumper issue. Thanks for the info and do please keep it coming.

I will let you know what if any thing ASRock have to say.
