Hi guys, does anyone know how (using frontpage 2003) i can add to my current website a username and password box so people can sign up to my site and when they log in, they reach their own personal web page.
Basically i am running a computer repair company and each repair that i do, the customer will register on my website, when they login, they will reach a personal page with information about their past repairs, a list of downloads for their computer such as latest drivers etc.
Can anyone let me know how its done or talk me through it?

Thanks.

What you need is a CMS (content management system) or CRM (Customer Relationship manager)

Alfresco is a good one, but perhaps a little overkill.

There is a list here and here

I don't know if frontpage can do what you ask, as really you need a proper database system.

There are lots of others,like:

http://www.phpgroupware.org/
http://www.phprojekt.com/

You could also use something like osCommerce or Magento

If you don't quite need anything ultra sophisticated at this point...

You can accomplish the login part with a simple javascript that basically serves to take them to a page named in accordance with their login - ie:"loginname.html". The page isn't linked anywhere or seen by the general public and you name it and provide it as the 'login name'. It isn't especially secure, but I don't think you intend to post sensitive info, so it may suit you without too much fuss.

You can make manual updates to the personalised work log pages if you're just starting out and, as said, move to a heftier database system with true login functionality as you grow.

It's a quick and easy way to do it now. Just look up 'javascripts +logon' or '+log in'.

Good luck. Let us know what/how it worked.

edit - scripts might also be called 'password javascripts'. They'll be free

-You'll need one page that launches the script, like www.mydomain/login (that loads an index.html page with the javascript on it.) You give that address to the client and assign them a password (or user name).

That launches a password entry small window that they enter and it takes them to the page named for the password you assigned.
