Friend brought thier laptop to see if I could do anything with it, they are one of those 'tinkering' sorts-you know. Anyways it seems to work just fine (it's on XP) apart from the background in all menu's is in black as is the task bar, you can only see the icons and so it is impossible to get anywhere. Maybe if I knew a quick fix I could navigate on my home system at the same time to give me a clue what I am clicking on. Sorry for the vague description of the problem but it is my problem now and I deceided to share it with you guys as it was p**sing me off. The individual concerned was apparently trying to change the background at the time and the mouse has developed a trail if this helps at all. Any input on this matter would be very much appreciated. I have tried safe mode and last known cofig to no avail. Cheers chaps.

| Cheers for the responce Alex. It could well be the colour scheme but is there any easy way of changing it. I have tried changing the desktop background colour and nothing. It would appear to be the menu background colour that is the issue? Dunno?

Have you tried changing the theme? that should set it back to the defaults as opposed to the current (modified) version.
