I'm having a problem with Windows explorer (my second PC problem of the week, its like waiting for buses). It has stopped responding to any right click or request to move a file. All I can do is open files and save them as something else. Also, the menus at the top of explorer, e.g. File, Edit etc will not open for me when I click them. When I try to do any of the above mentioned things it just hangs and I have to CTR ALT DEL to shut down explorer. I have also noticed that some things in the START menu will not work either, e.g. things within 'My Computor', so presumably these are also based on explorer. I'm not getting any error codes or messages though.
I have even tried re-installing windows over my existing install to repair it (like '98 used to) in case something had got corrupted, but it hasn't made a difference. Well, the only difference it has made is that it has wiped all my system restore points so now I have remembered to use that function, it isn't available to me... Doh!!!!! (yes, you can laugh...)
I have tried searching on the microsoft forums without success. There is just so much content on them that I could be searching for weeks and not find anything.
I have only recently updated to McAfee Internet Protection Version 9 (latest one) and have run and full virus check - came up with zero. I am using XP Home with all updates.
Any ideas? or is it re-build time again?

Ive had a similar problem recently with explorer, Ive also had a problem with the desktop icons freezing and the system stutters for about 30 seconds, It turned out that i never uninstalled my Nod32 anti virus properly before installing the latest version, I have since uninstalled & reinstalled again and the problem has gone away.
It might be worth doing a complete uninstallation of your anti virus, Including all program file entries & registry entries to see if its the culprit.
(do Macafee have a cleaning tool?)

Just tried a full uninstall and reinstall using the McAffee removal tool but the problem persists. Thanks for the suggestion anyway.
