hi there,
any idea what i can go up to on an amd athlon 1333 (tm).
Also does it matter how the overclocking is done.
ie.by upping the multiplier 1st or upping the fsb 1st, or is it the end fig that only counts.
Does this effect the ram in any way.
my spec,
abit kg7 , 512ram(2700) 40gig h/d,running xp.(running temp 50 ish)

current bios settings default for 1333 = 10x133 fsb rate 4:4:1

this can got to 13x & 200fsb in manuel define.

cheers phil

In my opinion one should always strive for a syncronous system. Thus maximising your bandwidth, which is the key to a faster system. Which is not necessarily the highest Mhz.

As a guide for your system I would take your ram bus speed which is 166 and try to make your cpu also run at that speed.

So you should lower your multiplier a little and up your cpu fsb until you reach 166.

Once you have confirmed the cpu is stable and cool at this speed then start to work on the multi.

If your cpu starts to fail then you can increase your cpu voltage a little.

Always monitor your cpu temperatures during overclocking as this will indicate how far she will overclock. Dont go over 55 degrees, preferably less.

It all depends on your hardware. You can change anything you want if your mobo supports it, if your cpu is unlocked etc.

Will your mobo not do 166?Ill take a look on the net for you. When you say it will do 266 you actually mean 133 fsb(2x133=266). So you need to up that 133 to 166.

Your top FSB all depends on the chipset used on the motherboard. Also note that even if a board has a 166Mhz jumper or setting in BIOS it may not necessarily support it officially, and you may find that around 140Mhz is the highest it can go
