thats a possibility but the files identified are ones that are likely to contain nasties so i am happy that they are not false positives.

i guess in the end its important that we chose a program we are comfortable with and will keep us secure and AVG is the one for me even if its interface is not as nice

Well there's nothing new there, all the figures suggest that Rising's not as high up the list for detection rates as AVG.

If detection rate is more important to you than speed, used resources, stability etc. then you should be using Avira's product, its detection engine is the best in the market, paid for or otherwise.

Concurr - our public nodes, gateways and encryption servers all run Avira. It's not wonderfully slow IMO either

I got rid of Rising a while ago: quite nice but my AV server handles all that quite nicely (and I have a custom lightweight client to run basic checks on my laptops/desktops periodicaly) so it was a waste

I did notice (in our testing) that it didnt quite pick up enough to be a decent product without something else to back it up.

We use it at work on the analysis/acquisition machines and a couple of our networks (as well as the cluster headers - those that run Windows) simply because it's better to be safe than sorry *but* those machines need to be super speedy.

As CC says it is up to what your priorities are (and what your setup consists of)

Cheers,
Tom
