For Windows, Mozilla have just released version 3.0.2 of FireFox, which seems faster than version 3.0.1 on my [B] rig's XP, but has anyone else noticed how uniquely different the Ubuntu version of FireFox is ?
Now at version 3.0.3, it's unique capability is 'Print to PDF'.
When displaying an HTML web-page, like http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu:Hardy select File, Print and then 'PDF' instead of your CUPS-installed printer and a PDF file of the web-pages is fairly promptly dumped in to a 'Home' folder.
If you then find that file and double-click it, it opens in Evince PDF reader, currently at version 2.22.2, in which you can merely browse on-screen, saving paper, or print odd and then even pages to create a double-sided reference. In the case of the Ubuntu Guide example, about 41 pages worth.
I have found that this doesn't work well for all web-pages, but for enough to be very useful.
So, anybody else noticed ?

| Must confess that I hadn't noticed. That is quite a handy little trick, thanks for the tip!

There is an official plugin to make your Windows version do it as well if you want to, Bruce. It lives HERE, although I've never tried it personally.
Cheers, Slipstreem.
System specs: "Phoenix" - Intel C2D E4500 overclocked to 3GHz with ACF7Pro HSF on Volt-modded ASRock 775Dual-VSTA mobo (modded BIOS rev 3.10A and VNB=1.65, Vagp=1.8), 2x1GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2-800 RAM (3.0,3,3,8,1T @546MHz), Sapphire ATI HD3870 512MB GDDR4 PCIe graphics card overclocked to 850MHz GPU & 2.4GHz RAM running Omega drivers. Powered by Hiper Type-M 580W PSU. Guess who likes overclocking on a budget.
MP3 Encoding for Audiophiles
Fun MPEG-4 Encoding Race
MPEG-4 Playback Enhancement Using FFDShow
How good is the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro HSF really?
Boosting ATI Framerates with CCC (X700 on)
Optimise ATI Image Quality and Framerates with Omega & ATT under WinXP (X1xxx and HD38xx Series)

That's great - thank you Slipstreem
Edit PS - For the XP version of FireFox, its a commercial yet free add-on that achieves the same via more laborious transfer to their web-site as HTML before download return as a PDF file, with the activity invoking the promotion of other commercial, non-free tools.
So, very useful for occasional use in XP, but most of the time I'll use the 'in-built' capability in the Ubuntu version of FireFox.

The easy fix in Windows is to install a PDF printer/driver. Then simply print the page to that "printer". There are loads available.
Here's an example - http://www.dopdf.com/

Indeed there is and the easiest and best method. I use CutePDF so I can use it in everything (like Opera and Office)

Actually I also use CutePDF but I recommended dopdf as it does not need Ghostscript, so is an easier solution.

Thanks guys, just tried 'dopdf' in my XP copy of FireFox 3.02 and it quite quickly produced a PDF file, so I'll now use that in XP, whilst mostly using the Firefox 3.03 version's in-built capability in Ubuntu 8.04.1
(Edit PS - where I now prefer Evince 2.22.2 to XP's Acrobat Reader 6.0)
