Then all I will say is make sure that you get the best warranty possible, and don't be heavy handed with the keyboard !!
Tim

Are the Acer keyboards prone to failure?

I don't normally purchase extended warranties from companies as they tend to be sold at over inflated prices. However after reading the forum posts here the general consensus is that it's advisable to do so with a laptop.

Thanks for the link Rad. I have just realised the model I had selected was a gaming lappy , so I have reselected this one.

More than advisable with a lappie, I think

A lot more fragile than your standard ATX size computer

Accidental damage on your house insurance is quite good, so I have been told.

Yes, in my experience here, they are prone to failure, hence my comments about build quality and the extended warranty. Always worth a decent warranty anyway on a lappy. Even if it was a slightly lower spec and slightly more expensive, I would go for say an Asus over an Acer any day.
I have had about 9 through my hands over the last year, I think 8 of those had collapsing keyboard issues and were between 8 and 14 months old.

You been typing with a crowbar Tim?
Never seen a collapsing keyboard on any make.

I usually get Acers as the 3 year warranty is so ridiculously cheap, and the few times I've had to use them they are good.
Lately I've been buying Asus as the build quality is better and they 2 year warranty is a good trade off.
I never buy anything with only the standard 1 year warranty - I've seen too many (all makes) fail in the second year.

LOL
All customer machines, all bar one bought here in Spain (though I cannot see why that would make any difference), and 3 or 4 different models.
They all had issues with the lower, right hand side of the keyboard!

Avoid acer like the plague

We have had 4 die in less than 2 months already.

My personal Aspire needs a regular clean every month to keep it dust free (and if you dont it will regularly crash due to overheating)

Cheers,
Tom
