Basically I have a single ethernet wall socket in my room and would like to be able to connect more than one device to it.
I have a mythbox in another room and wifi is the only practical way to get it online.

How should I go about setting this up?
Is a cheap access point what I need or could a decent router be used as an access point?

Any input welcome

Having two routers is a nightmare, don't go there...

What you want is an Access Point.
If you can find one with more than one ethernet port that would be handy, or just add a cheap switch (under a tenner) to avoid having to buy a wireless adapter for everything.

From E-Buyer I'd go for the Plexus 5-Port 10/100 Switch £8 (quickfind code: 132456) and Plexus Wireless-G Access Point £17.50 (quickfind code: 132431) cos I know you're a skint student and my favourite Buffalo kit seems out of stock everywhere

That's the access point I was looking at, it's cheap and from the reviews seems to work fine.
Had thought about using a switch but since the mythbox would be out of range (farther than my longest cable), all other pc's already have wifi and this might go in someone else's room I don't know how much use it would get.

The man understands!

Thanks Dave!
