Realised the other day after putting a system together for the folks, that i'd forgotten to take out the jumper on my Samsung Spinpoint SATA II hard drive. So for the past couple of years it's been running in SATA 1.5 Gbit/s, instead of the full SATA 3.0 Gbit/s. I've now corrected this but i can't honestly say i've noticed any performance increase, such as loading Linux or Windows, whatsoever.

Obviously i'm aware of the spec differences and i'm sure there are comparison tests aplenty, but has anyone noticed any real world benefits that really show?

P.S. My motherboard does support SATA II 3 Gbit/s mode in case anyone was wondering.

Never noticed any difference either...

I dont honestly think it takes full advantage of the higher speed either (I do rememebr reading that somewhere as well)

Cheers,
Tom

It's the mechanical hard drives themselves that limit the speed, and not the interface.

You haven't noticed a different because in short, there is no difference.

Never noticed any difference either, and my Sata II drive is in native IDE mode. The link below compares the 1TByte drives:
