| hi there This is my first MM post so i thought i would say hi to everyone. I'm Redent, Gaming enthusiast, hardware modifier and general IT tech by trade. However 64bit OS's somthing i tended to stay away from with my line of work. However i recently tuck the plunge and went for xp64 (Server 03 varient) and never looked back. I initially had a few compatibilty issues with my network dongle, but a few driver mods later and it was fine. The question is as follows How can i make the most of xp64? I have the modified gaming edition installed (not really modifed, more all the bumph removed) and the system specs are in my signiture. Asside from the usual "get 4/8gb or ram" and try and get 64bit extended software, is there anything else that may boost performance for my rig? appreciate any and all replies kind regards Redent

I'd get some Sata hdd in a raid 1 array, for a start.

E6600 o/c 3.12Ghz, Asus P5W Deluxe, X1950 xtx, 2GB Gskill Dual Channel NR PC-6400, Zalman CNPS9500-LED all in an Antec p180 tower.

kakys2 (11/10/2008) I'd get some Sata hdd in a raid 1 array, fora start.
RAID 1 is a waste for home use. RAID 0 will give you a performance increase, and a boost in storage.
Not sure exactly what modifications you're running, but a standard XP tweak guide is usually applicable to x64 (well, it's what I used anyway).
Some advanced stuff you can do, getting a defragmenter that will move your games to the inside of the hard disk, where performance is increased. Disabling all unneeded services, enabling 'advanced performance' for each hard drive in device manager.
Can't think of anything else really.
