My mate's pc is suffering with the graphical problem shown in the below picture. Does anyone recognise this phenomenon and know the cause? The picture goes blocky and the system stops responding.
 
He has stress tested cpu and memory for 24 hours, and also ran two passes of 3dmark06 without issue. The problem only seems to arise when playing CSS, and certain maps are more prone to crashing than others. It doesn't matter whether he's been playing CSS for an hour or 3 mins, it'll still happen.
His system specs:
Antec twelve-hundred
620W corsair psu
Q6600 G0 stepping @2.87 GHz
Asus P5K AP
GeIL 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Black Dragon DDR2 Dual Channel Kit

I think i've found the solution to the problem.

Homebrew maps spike09? Thats a broken picture of de_Nuke 
Edit: In response to Spike's comment below, by "other maps" I meant things like Dust2.
