Hi folks, another very interesting thread, where I have learned that Vista Business comes with a full blown imaging backup and restore rather than the simple data file backup and restore of more basic versions of Vista.
I can't comment on changes to the school system and would defer to advice from others. So far, only Speedee1 has mentioned replacing a laptop's hard drive, for which I would offer some practical tips. The only laptop maker with specific instructions on how to do this that I have come across is Lenovo (nee IBM), although a 'PC Weird' Advent sub-contractor once came close. Cloning and restoration software can insist upon an identical or larger model replacement drive, but it can also be an opportunity to upgrade to a larger, faster drive that consumes the same or even less startup and operating power. Seagate Momentus 2.5" drives do quite well in this respect. Much overlooked, such replacements can usefully speed everyday operation, but 'belt and braces' style, don't discard the old drive and installed software until you are happy with its replacement's operation. (My old MSI 510C has been so improved and its old, slower drive has gone into an Arianet 2.5" USB enclosure.) I hope this advice helps.

Sorry to misquote you Speedee1, it was dpbarry, as below :
I'd love to be able to change the HD but I haven't figured out how. I think a fair bit of pulling the case apart is required - don't fancy doing that on a new laptop even though I rather do that than erasing the HD and installing XP
Declan I really must wake up in the morning !

Yes, twas me who would have liked to have changed the HD. My reason for doing so was so that I didn't actually ruin the existing VISTA HD setup after taking the backup then installing XP only to find at a later stage that the VISTA backup didn't work. At least with changing the HD, I could try to restore the backup to the new HD thus verifying if the backup was okay. Hmm!! Might still investigate The school network system is referred to as the C2k system. Its a managed service network and has reputable one of the largest Active Directories in the UK/Europe. The system is built around Research Machines Community Connect 3 network system and is run over here by a company called Northgate who won the contract to supply all Post Primary (and I now think Primary) schools in N. Ireland with computers/servers which are all managed centrally from their head office in Belfast. The run it in conjunction with HP (who supply the network infrastructure) and the main partner group called Classroom 2000 (C2k) who coordinate everything and manage the SIMS system - Student Information Management System). They use a program called Easylink to allow student/Staff to access their school document areas plus a few other areas but the program doesn't work with VISTA. Unfortunately, the program makers have gone out of business (so I'm told) and RM are trying to work out what the problem is. I think it is related to webfolders. Declan

| Am I missing something? It appears that others manage to use Easylink with Vista.
