Regular readers will know of my daughter's problems with NTL/Virgin over the last year.
Anyway she has now decided that enough is enough and would like a change. Her house has a BT socket that may or not have been activated before she bought the house.
My question is:_ can she approach a company such as BE to activate the line or will she have to sign up with BT? Looking at the BE website it appears that the exchange is unbundled.
Apologies if this is the wrong area. Mods please feel free to move it.

She'll have to get it activated by BT (who will charge stupid amounts of money).

However, you can then pay someone like Orange who are advertising all in one deals (ie you pay them one payment a month for line rental AND internet) whereas I currently pay BT for line rental and O2 for internet.

Thanks, I will pass that on to her.
I was bothered that she would have to take out a contract with BT for telephone for a minimum period.

A technician at work was wanting a phone line activated and BT are wanting £300 to do it.

BigD, I'm not sure about activation, but I know Sky do an all-in-one package too, which works out cheaper than paying for two connections (assuming the phone is never used, but BT line rental is paid, and the internet costs £18 a month).

Myself and my mum are moving to Sky, to take advantage of this
