Actually, sorry to make things simpler but you CAN remove the CMOS battery, you'll find it underneath the user accessible memory door on the base.

As explained the whole way through this topic removing cmos on a laptop does not reset passwords.
It is hardwired into the system.
Id be interested to see if the software our friend recieved works.

I too would like to see if the software works.  I was given a Dell laptop to sort out a year or two ago.  I managed to do it but I had to dismantle the whole thing and short out the eeprom chip.  It was easy to do once you have the correct procedure in front of you.  Google it and ye shall find.

Tried the software i was provided with which i burnt to cd, but it did not work on my Dell Inspiron 1520, have yet to try it on older Dell laptop which is pass worded, when i get chance i will try the software on one of those laptops, in my loft, will let you all know how i get on then.

yes les wont work on ispirons i thought u was using it on the older 1 u had

Hi sparkeyflex,

Thought i would try it on the Inspiron 1520 but found out it would not work on that one, & you have just mentioned that, so that confirms it.

Yeah, i will now try it on the older Dell in the loft, Dell 3800, Pentium III whish is passworded.
