anybody know how to bypass the welcome screen(xp) as i would like to boot up as quick as possible especially as this laptop is so old

  1. Click Start, click Run, and type control userpasswords2.
  2. Uncheck the "Users must enter a username and password to use this computer" check box.
  3. Click Apply.
  4. Enter the user name and password you wish to automatically log on with, and then click OK.
  5. Click OK again and you're all done.

Don't leave the laptop in a public place!

you could always put a bios start up password on it to try and keep it a bit more secure

so that when you start it up you need to input a pin code

possibly i thought a bios password would be less of a slow down then the windows one but you have a point
