Could be a motherboard problem as well as RAM. I assume you have cleared CMOS.
I know its a pain to do but in this circumstance I would pull the board out of the case to stop any chance of a case short and set it up with minimal components on a (in my case) improvised test bed.
Then, with only CPU, RAM and graphics card if you still dont get a post its time to try other new or borrowed components.
I cant think of doing anything else.
Edit: I assume it once worked fine and dandy? When you can get into BIOS have you checked all the settings?

If it is an intermittent fault as you said then I think it would be very hard to fix.
But I would not get rid until you had tested all the parts in a new mobo, just in case!

yea well i have tested all my parts in a new mobo and it boots fine, it gets half way through starting vista then dies, i thing this may be because of how old the mobo it, it cannot be comatable with windlows vista.
anyway atleast i am now pretty much sure all my parts work and it is just the mobo at fault.
i will try to get hold of asus and see if i can get a replacment.
thanks for the help mate, and feel free to comment on anything else, help is alway aprechiated
//Edit - anyone know if asus would fix it for me? the motherboard is only about 3 months old.\\

| Hi, I didnt think it was that young! You should contact the company you bought it from for a replacement. Where did you buy it from? Just out of interest.
