yep im back with another problem, only this time its my pooter
i think it's a problem with the motherboard but most of the time when I try to use the computer all it does is turn on the fans and bleep at me. One long beep then 3 short which seems to point at a memory fault.
I have tried so many things and I just have no idea what to do with it, I tried putting in different RAM but when I turned it on absolutely nothing happened, it seemed to power up but with nothing on the screens and no keyboard lights.

Its an Asus P5k Premium WiFi – AP motherboard and the rest of the spec is in the sig

Thanks for any help

Could be a motherboard problem as well as RAM. I assume you have cleared CMOS.

I know its a pain to do but in this circumstance I would pull the board out of the case to stop any chance of a case short and set it up with minimal components on a (in my case) improvised test bed.

Then, with only CPU, RAM and graphics card if you still dont get a post its time to try other new or borrowed components.

I cant think of doing anything else.

Edit: I assume it once worked fine and dandy? When you can get into BIOS have you checked all the settings?

If it is an intermittent fault as you said then I think it would be very hard to fix.

But I would not get rid until you had tested all the parts in a new mobo, just in case!

yea well i have tested all my parts in a new mobo and it boots fine, it gets half way through starting vista then dies, i thing this may be because of how old the mobo it, it cannot be comatable with windlows vista.
anyway atleast i am now pretty much sure all my parts work and it is just the mobo at fault.
i will try to get hold of asus and see if i can get a replacment.

thanks for the help mate, and feel free to comment on anything else, help is alway aprechiated

//Edit - anyone know if asus would fix it for me? the motherboard is only about 3 months old.\\

Hi, I didnt think it was that young! You should contact the company you bought it from for a replacement. Where did you buy it from? Just out of interest.

got it from advancetec.co.uk
only problem is that i have removed and lost the heat pipe and cooler which runs accross the board, and glued a heatsink to the southbridge did all that quite a while ago tho.

do you think they will replace it? lol

thanks
