| i have been thinking about getting an asus eeepc but can't afford the current prices. there was a new 2gb surf on ebuyer for approx £129 but they sold out very quick and i dont want to pay even that ideally. all it needs is to be able to play flash video, my son likes looking at thomas the tank engine vids, even if i need to update the version of flash, and i dont care what size the storage is. anyone know where i can either get a very cheap new one or even a very good second hand one.

I have an Eeepc 701 - one of the originals. Although it can play flash videos from a USB stick they do tend to be quite 'stuttery'. The newer ones will be faster, but why not look at competitors such as MSI? Listening to the news today the losses posted by PC World will probably mean they may have some good pre-Xmas sales.
Why a netbook if it is just for flash videos for your son to watch? Why not look at a secondhand laptops, they maybe older and cheaper?

I maxed out the flash RAM but unfortunately it doesn't make the cpu any faster . Maybe the flash would be faster if I transferred it to an SD card rather than a USB slot, but I'm using that card slot for program/data storage. I could also probably speed it up if I resized the flash video to only fill part of the screen, but I'm afraid I don't have time to try.
I really don't think the original EeePC's were designed with stutter-free full screen multimedia in mind.

I have the 900 version (no silly speakers on the side) and I can happily play a movie on it whilst on the train. Which is what I got it for. And it plays Youtube videos fine.
