With Dial up ISP,I require one to connect my "old" Patriot bookcase pc to the Internet.The existing onboard Modem is bust!.Am usuing Mandrake 10 distro.

I would recommend going for a serial modem, not usb,(battery life is short enough on a laptop/notebook without a power hungry usb modem) if in doubt check the mandrake hardware compatability site

Thanks for info Malc but regret Patriot desktop has no serial sockets!Sold to my son 8 years ago (pc world) and is fully `on board` no expansion slots,

Has two USB sockets.Sorry about not giving you enough info.I have plenty here at home near Lancaster including motherboard. Oh,since last post I have started again on this pc running two o/s. W98se and linux suse 9.1 personal.Both installed OK w98 ok with onboard modem connecting to Internet. Only Linux to go!!
Off topic. I started diy making radio crystal sets moving onto audio.Guess my age? please bear with me!
